Androscoggin Bank was nationally recognized by the American Bankers Association Foundation for its Accessible Islamic Home Financing Alternative with a 2025 ABA Foundation Community Commitment Award. The award was given to Androscoggin Bank for its efforts in the Financial Inclusivity category and was presented during ABA’s Annual Convention on Oct. 21 in Charlotte, N.C.
The program provides Maine’s growing Muslim community with a faith-aligned path to homeownership, removing barriers created by conventional interest-based mortgages. Created through collaboration with local nonprofit partners, the solution is designed to be both culturally responsive and financially sustainable. Since launch, it has helped numerous families move from renting to owning, enabling them to build equity, stability, and long-term financial security.
The selection committee chose the winning banks based on the creativity and thoughtfulness of programs — traditional or innovative in nature and structure — that embody the ideals of corporate social responsibility and demonstrate success in making an impact.
“Androscoggin Bank’s Accessible Islamic Home Financing Alternative exemplifies the powerful impact financial institutions can have when they invest in the well-being of their communities,” said Lindsay Torrico, executive director of the ABA Foundation. “As a 2025 Community Commitment Award honoree, their work stands as a model of purpose-driven banking, and we hope it inspires others across the industry to lead with compassion and innovation.”
Neil Kiely, CEO of Androscoggin Bank, said, “We believe banking should open doors—not close them. Our Accessible Islamic Home Financing Alternative is one way we’re honoring that commitment by helping more families achieve the stability and dignity of homeownership. We’re deeply grateful to the ABA Foundation for recognizing this work, and even more grateful to the community partners and clients who have trusted us on this journey.”
